چکیده

Objectives: Comparative histological studies of pineal gland of man and fowl has been made to observe structural differences if any between these two species. Background: Some works have been done sporadically on laboratory animals and on birds and also in human correlating with other parameters. In this investigation an approach has been made to observe the cellular organization of the pineal gland parenchyma in these two vertebrates, having different physiological aspects. Methods: Some special stains were used to observe connective tissue elements (Reticulin, collagen and elastic fibers) along with conventional H and E stains. Result and conclusion: The lobular character of the gland, connective tissue septa, shape and size of the pinealocytes were found to be almost common in both species. Major differences seen in fowl pineal gland are the presence of ependymal cells on the walls of the lumen of the lobules and absence of corpora arenacea.

Background and Aim: Intracranial physiologic calcification is not accompanied by any evidence of disease and has no demonstrable pathological cause. It is often due to calcium deposition in the blood vessels of different structures of the brain. Computed tomography (CT) is the most sensitive means of detection of for this calcification. The aim of this study was the assessment of the intracrani...

Living organisms have multiple biological rhythms. Some of these rhythms are endogenous and some are under the influence of light and dati cydes during 24-hours. Nowadays periodic changes in melatonin secretion from pineal gland and changes in N-acetyl transferase (NAT) activity which influence the melatonin secretion rate has been acknowledged as a basic rhythm. In this study NAT activity in p...
